November 2004

A month of changeable weather, with high winds alternating with dull, quiet periods seems to be the pattern. Rain also has acompanied these weather patterns with the result that the spring lines on the side are in full flow. There have been a couple of cold nights down to just above freezing, but with no apparent damage to most plants, the exception being Hedychium greenii which are badly affected by any temperatures below 5° Centigrade. The actual plant itself is unaffected. Another feature which has become a feature in the garden, is the flowering out of season of a variety of plants. This is a continuation of comments made for October 2004. The Hamamelis mollis 'Pallida' and Corylopsis pauciflora still have these aberrant flowers. Rhododendron 'Thackers Red' as usual still throws its geranium red flowers on a regular basis. Ceanothus arboreus 'Trewithen Blue' continues flowering.
