In 1956, a foreword to the Official Guide to Criccieth by Lady Megan Lloyd George (Lloyd George's daughter) describes Criccieth:

'Have you ever been to Criccieth? To those of you who have, no further word need be said, for you will want to come again of your own accord. Criccieth is its own best advertisement. That, at any rate, has always been our experience. Those of you who have not been will, I hope........come and see for yourself this charming little town, in its beautiful setting of mountain and sea.... Criccieth is only a short distance from some of the loveliest country and of the most famous places in all Wales. From the hills above the town you can see the peaks of Snowdonia. From the beach you will have a view of the mountains of Merioneth and Cardigan, as fine as anything that you see in Italy or Switzerland.
Criccieth is lovely in summer and spring, but you can come in winter, for the climate is mild enough to grow Camellias and Mimosa out of doors.
I recommend Criccieth to you, not at second-hand, but from my own personal experience, for I have spent my holidays there most of my life and found it unbeatable'.

What Lady Megan says above is just as true today and can still be rightfully described as 'The Pearl of the Cambrian Coast'. There are no commercial developments; it is still a place to relax away from todays stresses and the views from the Castle are breathtaking.
