Every year this spectacular tree provides such a wonderful show for about 10 days. This originally comes from Chile and has a reputation for being difficult to grow. Some forms are more sensitive to frost than others, this form has never suffered from frost damage here. This tree was bought in 1986 and brought to this garden from the Lake District in 1989. It has never set seed nor does it sucker as some forms can. Plants of this seem to be more easily obtainable in the horticulural trade in general. Certainly worth trying if you have acidic soil and live in the West of the UK.
