Convention on Biological Diversity Links
This page will hopefully act as a resource for links pertaining to the Convention on Biological Diversity, Cites and the new Action Plan for Cultivated Plant Conservation.

Action Plan for Cultivated Plant Conservation - five objectives are identified in this plan presenting the recommendations made at the Growing Heritage Conference in London, April 2006.
Bluebell (Hyacinthoides non-scripta) research that hopefully will reveal more about the taxonomy of British bluebells and the correlation between wild and cultivated Hyacinthoides hispanica.
CITES- (the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) is an international agreement between governments. Its aim is to ensure that international trade in specimens of wild animals and plants does not threaten their survival.
Convention on Biological Diversity- Signed by 150 government leaders at the 1992 Rio Earth Summit, the Convention on Biological Diversity is dedicated to promoting sustainable development.
Ramsar Convention - The Convention on Wetlands, signed in Ramsar, Iran, in 1971, is an intergovernmental treaty which provides the framework for national action and international cooperation for the conservation and wise use of wetlands and their resources.
World Heritage Convention - The most significant feature of the 1972 World Heritage Convention is that it links together in a single document the concepts of nature conservation and the preservation of cultural properties.
Conservation International - their mission is to conserve the Earth's living natural heritage.
World Wildlife Fund (WWF) - From our start in 1961, WWF has worked to protect endangered species. We're ensuring that the world our children inherit will be home to elephants, tigers, giant pandas, whales and other wildlife species, as well as people.
WWF International - Established in 1961, WWF operates in more than 100 countries working for a future in which humans live in harmony with nature.
TRAFFIC - the wildlife trade monitoring network, works to ensure that trade in wild plants and animals is not a threat to the conservation of nature. TRAFFIC is a joint programme of WWF and IUCN - The World Conservation Union.
UNESCO-MAB Programme - Since its early days, UNESCO's Man and the Biosphere Programme has initiated programmes and activities focusing on the diversity and the resources provided by nature, humans' impacts on biodiversity, as well as how biodiversity affects human activities.
Rural Advancement Foundation Int. - or Action Group on Erosion, Technology and Concentration ETC Group is dedicated to the conservation and sustainable advancement of cultural and ecological diversity and human rights. To this end, ETC Group supports socially responsible developments of technologies useful to the poor and marginalized and it addresses international governance issues and corporate power.
The Nature Conservancy - to preserve the diversity of life on Earth by protecting the lands and waters they need to survive.
European Centre for Nature Conservation - the European Centre for Nature Conservation is an independent organization working for the conservation and sustainable use of Europe’s nature, biodiversity and landscapes. ECNC stimulates cooperation between science, policy and economy for the sake of biodiversity and people in Europe.
IUCN-World Conservation Union - The World Conservation Union is the world’s largest and most important conservation network. The Union brings together 82 States, 111 government agencies, more than 800 non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and some 10,000 scientists and experts from 181 countries in a unique worldwide partnership.
Flora and Fauna International (FFI) - Fauna & Flora International (FFI) is the world's longest established international conservation body, founded over 100 years ago.
IUCN Red List - The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species provides taxonomic, conservation status and distribution information on taxa that have been globally evaluated using the IUCN Red List Categories and Criteria.
WCMC threatened plants - The 1997 IUCN Red List of Threatened Plants represents a milestone in the history of Red Data books and lists, providing, as it does, the first-ever published list of vascular plants (ferns and fern allies, gymnosperms including conifers and cycads, and flowering plants) recorded as globally Rare, Vulnerable, Endangered or Extinct. The current list names 33,798 species as threatened. Compared to an estimated global flora of 270,000 species this results in the grim statistic that over 12.5 % of the world's vascular flora is threatened at the global scale.
Center for Plant Conservation - The Center for Plant Conservation (CPC) is dedicated solely to preventing the extinction of U.S. native plants.
Global Trees Campaign (FFI/UNEP-WCMC) - The Global Trees Campaign aims to save the world's most threatened tree species and their habitats through provision of information, conservation action and support for sustainable use.
Botanic Gardens Conservation International - BGCI links over 800 botanic gardens and botanical institutions in more than 120 countries in the world’s largest network for plant conservation, environmental education and sustainable development.
